Statue of Miklós Horthy

The bust of Miklós Horthy, regent of Hungary between 1920 and 1944, was erected at Szabadság square, Budapest, in 2007. The statue is located in front of a Calvinist church - however, the church itself did not disavow it. The irony is that in 1944, Jews were saved in the church building, which is commemorated on a memorial plaque right behind the Horthy bust.

The bust inspired much controversy, for instance, in 2020, a woman poured red paint on it. Afterwards, the statue was covered with a transparent plastic case.
